ChildRaise Trustee at Sanvedana Epilepsy Matrimonial Meet at Pune, 20th Jan 2019.

Sanvedana Foundation's Epilepsy Marriage workshop went off very well! Number of brides and grooms was little less than expected, but still, total number of people was 115. It was a pleasant morning in lovely Pune city, at the lush green area of Niwara. We experienced from the sharing of brides and grooms with epilepsy, and their parents, how much this type of workshop was needed! Facilitators were Dr Pandurang Wattamwar , Kavita Shanbhag and Dr Manasee Deshmukh, who spent their valuable time and thoughts, and also enjoyed to be in this workshop.

22nd Feb 2019 "DTour"

After few recce visits to different organisations by me (Kavita Shanbhag - Founder & Trustee ChildRaise Trust), reshuffling of dates to accommodate all concerned members, we finally embarked on our ChildRaise DTour on Friday, 22nd February 2019. First we gathered in ChildRaise Centre for a brief orientation on what is a D Tour.

It is a day tour to sensitize general public about disability & diversity. We visit different organisations working in the field of disability but doing some out of the box work.

Our first stop was to Sai Connections .There we had mid morning breakfast. This was prepared by students of Sai Connections who have Autism. Recently, they have started tiffin service for people from Bandra & nearby area. But when we requested whether we can have the breakfast in their centre interacting with the students & staff, the readily agreed to our delight. After the hot poha & steaming cuppa of coffee, we headed to Metta Spa at Hill Road.

Metta means Maitri in Sanskrit & Metta in Pali means benevolence, active interest in others without judging them. We went there to soak in the reflexology massage given by visually impaired therapists. All our D Tour members were really relaxed & enjoyed the massage session. They also enjoyed the interaction with Joanita , the owner & how she started the Metta Spa which has completed 10 years of dedicated service.

From there we headed to Juhu to Arpan canteen for lunch. Arpan canteen is a tiffin service with a difference. The lunch is prepared by adults with developmentally challenged adults with some support staff. The lunch is very delicious & healthy. While having lunch we listened to the stories, songs, enjoyed they dance by Arpan members. Some of them were to go to the nearby Arpan Cafe which is recently opened for their afternoon duty. We promised them to meet again at the cafe after visiting Advitya Centre.

Advitya means Unique. This centre is in Santacruz. As we entered, we were warmly welcomed by the vibrant decor. Here we met very senior group of mentally Challenged, with Down Syndrome etc. & those who are in their forties & fifties, may be even in older age group. After some quality time with them we returned to our last destination that is Arpan Cafe for a hot cuppa of Tea /coffee. The decor of the cafe, the menu was so refreshing that the stress of all these to & fro activities spread over the day just melted with the cookies in our mouth made by the Arpan team.

ChildRaise Trustee interviewed by Khayal Trust on Women's Day.

Every year Khayal Trust celebrates Women's Day by organising a music programme by women singers & performers. This year also they organised the same in Madam Cama Hall in the premises of Veer Savarkar Hall in Shivaji Park, Dadar, on Sunday, 3rd March a few days in advance of Women's Day, March 8th. The programme had Tabla Duet by Mukta Raste & Unmesha Athavale. Harmonium accompainment was by Kaushiki Joglekar. There was Sitar Recital by Smt Sunita Kasliwal Vyas (Maihar Gharana), Tabla accompaniment was by Priya Tiwari. The programme was compered by Prajakta Shah. This year Khayal Trust added a feature. They invited me ( Founder & Managing Trustee of ChildRaise Trust) as a social activist to be interviewed by Trustee of Khayal Trust & Doyen of Gwalior Gharana Neelaji Bhagwat. From next year onwards, they plan to do so by interviewing ladies from different walks of life along with the musical treat.

During the interview, I was asked how & why ChildRaise Trust was formed, what are our activities etc. The pertinent question was how do I connect my early music training to teach children & general public.

In all, It was a very lively dialogue between me & Neelaji. The response & the feedback from the audience was overwhelming.
