INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES (IDPD)
Why the need for IDPD?
The United Nations Department of Economic & Social Affairs that focuses on Disability tells us that Today,
the world population is over 7 billion people and more than one billion people,
or approximately 15 percent of the world’s population, live with some form of disability;
80 per cent live in developing countries.The annual observance of the International Day of Disabled Persons was proclaimed in 1992.
It aims to promote the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities in all spheres of society and development,
and to increase awareness of the situation of persons with disabilities in every aspect of political, social, economic and cultural life.
Every year a theme is followed.Yearwise themes are listed below.
2024-Amplifying the leadership of persons with disabilities for an inclusive and sustainable future.
2023- United in action to rescue and achieve the SDGs for, with and by persons with disabilities.
